The Casinò di Venezia was established in 1638 and is considered to be the oldest casino in the world. It´s original location was in a wing of the Theatre Saint Moses and during the intervals of the performances, audience members would play casino games. It relocated to a beautiful renaissance style Palace/stately home overlooking the Grand Canal and was reopened in 1959 under the ownership of the City of Venice. This historic building was once home to the Doge of Venice, Leonardo Loredan and famous composer Richard Wagner who lived here with his family before his untimely death in 1883. In 1995 the casino proudly opened the Wagner Museum in his honour.
